Upstairs in St Pancras International train station, next to the Eurostar terminals, you can find the hidden treasure that is Searcys St Pancras Grand.
We found a deal through bookatable – £29 for 3 courses and a drink (http://www.bookatable.co.uk/searcys-st-pancras-grand-and-champagne-bar-kings-cross-london)… Bargain!
When booking the deal at first I was slightly surprised to read that the restaurant was inside the station. On arrival it took us 15 minutes to find the escalator which takes you up to the second floor, but once you’re up it’s easy to spot.
The inside of the restaurant was rather unexpected. Deceivingly large and very extravagant with well dressed waiting staff and beautifully set tables. There is a well stocked bar at either end as well as a long wine list so you have the option of just drinks if you’re not looking for a meal.
For starters I opted for the tomato soup, which I can honestly say was the nicest soup I have ever tried – very flavoursome. Mains was rump steak with chips, mushroom, tomato and garlic and herb butter. Unfortunately my meat was a little fatty, however my 2 guests were raving about how great there’s were. The chunky chips were also very tasty.
The highlight of the meal for me was definitely the dessert – chocolate device with orange sorbet. The rich chocolate cake was evened out by the light sorbet, and the flavours complemented each other perfectly. I would return here simply for the dessert!
This restaurant is definitely worth a try, and not just for those passing through the station. With a formal but relaxed atmosphere, attentive staff and great food for a decent price (especially with the bookatable deal) Searcys St Pancras Grand is perfect for a nice dinner with friends.
