An Adrenaline Junkies Heaven in Sigulda, Latvia

Under an hour outside of Riga by car (or slightly longer by train) you will find the town of Sigulda. Aside’s from being a beautiful alternative to the busy capital city, Sigulda is full of exciting activities for those who love an adrenaline rush!

Bobsledding

The Sigulda bobsleigh, luge, and skeleton track is 1420 meters long with 16 curves and a 200 m long braking distance. It was the training track of many Latvian Olympic athletes and is one of the few in the world open to anyone.

For €50 you can have the full bobsleigh experience, or for €10 you can take to the track in the soft summer bob. A ride on the “frog”, a soft skeleton, is also available for €20. The track is only open on weekends between 12 and 5pm and booking is not necessary. Just park out the front, walk through to the start of the run and hand your cash to the men there. It’s definitely a little terrifying as you’re hurtling down the run, but it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and a lot of fun!

Skiing

Being a very flat country, Latvia isn’t known for it’s large ski resorts or particularly difficult runs. However if you’re looking to make the most of the snow, Sigulda has several ski slopes for you to enjoy.

Sigulda City Ski Track is one of the most popular skiing destinations in the country, with all major Latvian competitions taking place on the slope.

There is a ski school where beginners can have lessons with professional instructors, and all equipment can be hired on site.

Tarzan’s Adventure Park

Tarzan’s is the largest adventure park in the Baltic’s, with a treetop obstacle course, giant catapult, climbing wall, archery, go-karts and velomobiles.

Unfortunately on my recent visit the Park was shut for the winter (although it did look pretty cool in the snow regardless!). Tarzan’s is open to visitors again at the beginning of May.
