The Night Market is a celebration of London’s iconic international culinary scene. The 2-week long event is located in Perks Field, Kensington, and is the centrepiece of Evening Standard’s London Food Month. For £15 for an adult ticket (keep an eye out for discount codes!) you have access to a whole evening of some of London’s greatest food, drinks and live entertainment in a charming outdoor festival setting.
The market features 50 exciting stalls from some of the city’s best street food traders, as well as pop-up stands by many iconic London restaurants such as SmokeStak, Mews of Mayfair and Patty&Bun. Famous chef Angela Hartnett will also have her own tent at the event, showcasing all four of her London restaurants, whilst inviting guest street food chefs to put street food next to Michelin-star dining.
Several bars are dotted around the event serving everything from wine to cocktails. There are also 2 branded tasting bars from Ketel One Vodka and Cobra beer, the official Night Market drinks partners. You can either enjoy your drinks whilst wandering around the venue, underneath the ceiling of colourful umbrellas in the main tent, chilling out inside one of the beanbag filled igloos, or even standing inside an iconic red phone box.
Head to the Cobra bar and ask about the blind tastings. This is a secret small group event, held in a hidden room on top of the bar, where you are blindfolded and sample food and beer pairings from around the world. This had to be the highlight of my evening. As well as being great fun it was also an interesting learning experience – who knew you could pair beer so well with loads of international dishes!?
From Sunday to Thursday the market is open from 5 pm – 10:30 pm, whilst on Friday and Saturday it stays open until 11 pm. This means that no matter what day you go you get to experience both the beauty and the fun of the event after dark. When the sun disappears, the entire market is lit up by hundreds of enchanting little lights. The evening’s entertainment includes a host of DJ’s, including DJ Norman Jay MBE, Jimmy K-Tel, Ruby Savage, Cal Jader, Russ Jones, DJ Shepdog and Mr Shiver. Even if the classic British summer rain hits, like it did when we visited, you can just head on inside and enjoy the bar in the main tent until closing time.
The London Food Month Night Market is on until Sunday 18th June so make sure you grab your tickets by clicking here.
