‘Oh my God’, ‘What the f**k’ and ‘I have never seen anything like that before’ were just three of the sentences that came blurting out of my mouth during the circus-cabaret-burlesque extravaganza that is La Soirée.
Currently towards the end of its West End debut at the Aldwych Theatre, La Soirée began at the Edinburgh Fringe over 13 years ago. Despite the move to it’s most mainstream venue so far, the show has kept its iconic cheekiness and inappropriateness intact.
It’s best to go into the show not knowing exactly what to expect, with the shock factor being one of the best elements of the evening. But all I will say is that with everything from your more traditional Ariel acrobatics and dance performances, to a slightly questionable singing puppet, an almost naked towel routine, and an over the top Husband and Wife duo called ‘The Daredevil Chicken Club’ (the most bizarre act of the night and also my favourite), the wide variety of performers and talent in La Soirée is guaranteed to be unlike anything else you have ever seen.
Certainly a grown-up alternative to your standard West-End shows, La Soiree is so naughty at points that they’ve had to make it 16+ to enter. It’s saucy, sexy and a little bit silly. Definitely a unique theatre experience.
La Soiree is perfect for a debaucherous night out with your other half or a group of friends, and especially for a hen/stag do or work party (depending on how close you are to your colleagues).
